Alister Christie of Learn Delphi TV never failed to give us some useful tips and tricks on how to code faster in Delphi. These handy tricks were undeniably useful for both beginners and experts who are working with windows 10 apps development. In fact, he even published an ebook dedicated to these absolutely noteworthy coding techniques. At least 10 pages of his book are dedicated to keyboard shortcuts alone. Aside from these tips and tricks in Delphi, Alister also shares some obscure discoveries in the program on his YouTube channel. iCrew is an iOS and Android app that has been created to provide volunteer lifeboat crews availability info and it is built in Delphi. According to the description of the app “The app allows crew members to book themselves as unavailable, for example if they need to leave the area, and book back on when they return at the touch of a button. The availability is instantly updated across all other crew members phones so it’s easy to see at any time who is available should the crew have a call-out.” The Android app is available in the Google Play store and the iOS version is available in the Apple store. It would appear that Delphi FireMonkey was used to create a cross-platform app providing both iOS and Android versions. The app looks great! AlignMix is an easy-to-use sales territory mapping solution and it is built in Delphi. According to Steve at AlignMix “it is a Geographic Information System which helps companies to design and manage sales territories for their sales force. It enable the user to easily move the territory boundaries and re-assign zip codes (or postcodes) to make the territories fair and balanced.” Additionally, he says “AlignMix is cool because it’s so easy to use. We have focused on giving the user the best possible user experience. Even though designing sales territories isn’t normally regarded as an easy and enjoyable task we are getting feedback from users saying they just love to play with AlignMix.” It is a Windows desktop app, but is also designed to work with touch screens. Developed with Delphi and the VCL it makes heavy use of the Parallel Programming Library and Generic collections. Cue Player One by Baxel Data is one program for theater to control sound, video, lights, and accessories using one cue list, one computer, one operator and it is built in Delphi! The Cue Player family of professional grade software for theater includes Cue Player Premium and Cue Player Lighting. According to Baxel Data their software is in use in over 1000 theaters, churches, and schools worldwide. Baxel Data also says “there are many more local, or community, theater groups that needed something they could have on a laptop or portable computer they could bring into the venue just for the performances.” Cue Player One was born of this need says Baxel Data. It combines the sound and lighting features of their mainline software into one program and one cue list. According to their site “it designed to ease the task of improving web page position on search results. It will literally look at your web page code and suggest what can be improved to get better results.” The software offers some interesting features and is a nice change of pace is that it is a single flat fee verses a subscription. A lot of SEO services online charge a re-occurring fee. The software is visually appealing and appears to use a browser based control extensively to provide the nice looking interface.
